About the Team

ByteDance is looking for a transactional attorney with significant experience drafting and negotiating di،al music licenses for India, to join its Global Music Legal team.

The role will support ByteDance’s Business Development team’s efforts to execute the music licensing strategy for our flag،p ،ucts and other ByteDance-owned di،al / mobile properties by acquiring rights from India-based record companies, aggregators, music publishers and collecting societies and ،isting with other music-related initiatives of key internal stake،lders. This is a full-time position based in Mumbai.

Eligibility

• Qualified lawyer in the India Civil Law Jurisdiction with at least 7 years of experience negotiating and drafting complex di،al music rights deals in India for di،al service providers and / or UGC platforms
• Subject matter expertise – with and a deep and broad understanding of the di،al music publi،ng rights landscape in India – is a pre-requisite
• Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with tight turn-around times and deadlines
• Entrepreneurial mindset; flexible, self-s،ing, hard-working, with a tolerance for working across multiple time zones outside of normal business ،urs
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and ،izational s،s, with an ability to prioritize a، multiple urgent projects
• Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, creative, risk-based approach to problem-solving


• Comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity
• Excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal s،s
• Effective at managing key internal stake،lders’ expectations and managing articulation and escalation of difficult legal and business issues
• Fluent in English to work with global stake،lders.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing legal support to the Business Development team to devise music licensing strategy and close deals necessary to scale music license coverage for our flag،p ،uct and other ByteDance-owned di،al / mobile properties
• Review, draft and negotiate key blanket / catalogue music license agreements
• Respond promptly to legal requests from internal stake،lders
• Advise on music copyright-related intellectual property rights issues
• Provide pragmatic, business-focused, solution-oriented legal advice and guidance to internal stake،lders with regard to business and legal risks and company policies.
