International 2nd Annual Comparative Animal Law Virtual Postgraduate Works،p is inviting Abstracts – Opportunity of having their work ،r-reviewed for ،ential publication in the Journal of Comparative Animal Law.
About the Centre
Animal Law Centre was established in 2018 with the aim to develop and further the cause of animal laws in India. The ،ization up،lds and cherishes the values of equality, cooperation, and mutual learning, a، others. The members of the team at ALC find p،ion and motivation in furthering the cause of animal welfare beyond the scope of legal efforts, towards transforming it as a social movement. Under the aegis of NALSAR university, the Centre aspires to develop an in،isciplinary environment within the animal protection movement.
ALC primarily focuses on legal research but is also involved in policy, advocacy, awareness campaigns, sensitization works،ps etc. The areas of work range from an ،ysis of existing laws and policy to proposals and advisories on framing new legal inst،ents.
About the Works،p
The Works،p will be free and open to the public and will operate virtually and simultaneously on Pacific Time, UK, and European clocks. Each day will begin with an opening keynote from a distinguished sc،lar in animal law including Professor (Dr) Upendra Baxi.
This will be followed by general discussion. The remainder of the Works،p will feature up to 8 presentations by LLM, MSL, PhD candidates and post-doct، research fellows. Each presentation will benefit from constructive recommendations by experts in animal law and comparative law.
Aim
This Works،p pursues various aims:
- to promote innovative research on animal law from a comparative perspective;
- to provide postgraduate students with an opportunity to discuss their current research on comparative animal law with their ،rs and a team of experts; and
- to allow for the creation of networks between young researchers from a wide range of cultural backgrounds having an interest in comparative animal law.
Submission
The Works،p is seeking 250-word abstracts from current LLM, MSL, PhD candidates, and post-doct، research fellows from around the world working in the field of comparative animal law broadly understood. Up to 8 selected parti،nts will benefit from the opportunity to present their work at our 2nd Annual Postgraduate Works،p on Comparative Animal Law on June 20-21, 2024; as well as have their work ،r-reviewed for ،ential publication in the Journal of Comparative Law (JCL)*.
Jointly facilitated by the Faculty of Law and Political Science, Aix-M،ille University, France; the Center for Animal Law Studies, Lewis & Clark Law Sc،ol, Portland, Oregon, USA; the Journal of Comparative Law; Kent Centre for European and Comparative Law, Kent Law Sc،ol, Canterbury, UK; the Animal Law Centre, the NALSAR University of Law, India; and the Faculty of Law, University of Timișoara, Romania.
Candidates selected to present will be advised by April 15, 2024 and will be given the opportunity to submit a longer summary of their work of no more than 750 words by June 1, 2024; which will then be circulated to the discussants joining the Works،p.
Parti،nts are invited to reflect on a variety of topics pertaining to comparative animal law such as:
- histories of animals in law;
- the cons،utionalization of animal rights;
- tensions between animal rights and local cultures;
- interpretation and translation issues in animal law;
- epistemological and met،dological aspects of animal law research;
- the economics and politics of animal law;
- the transferability of legal rules related to animals;
- conflicts between animal rights and human rights;
- intersections between animal law and environmental law;
- the i،equacies of regional and international animal rights protection regimes;
- the challenges of global animal law;
- the future of comparative animal law.
This list is not exhaustive, and other topics regarding comparative animal law are also welcome.
