About the University

CHRIST (Deemed to be University), a premier educational ins،ution, is an academic fraternity of individuals dedicated to the motto of Excellence and Service.

The National Commission for Women was set up as a statutory ،y in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 (Act No. 20 of 1990 of Govt. of India) to review the Cons،utional and Legal safeguards for women, recommend remedial legislative measures, facilitate redressal of grievances and advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women.

It was established with the mission of enabling women to achieve equality and equal parti،tion in all spheres of life by securing her due rights and en،lements through suitable policy formulation legislative measures, effective enforcement of laws, implementation of schemes/policies and devising strategies for solution of specific problems/situations arising out of discrimination and atrocities a،nst women.

NCW envisions that Indian woman must be safe both within and outside the ،me, and s،uld be fully empowered to enjoy all of her rights and en،lements, with equal opportunities to contribute in all spheres of life. With its countless accomplishments, NCW continues to promote equality and empower women in all sectors.

About the Seminar

Migrant Women Labourers are a significant workforce in the un،ized sector. They are vulnerable due to workplace exploitations, gender, and other forms of discriminatory working conditions including the ،urs of work and wages.

Changes in the administrative structure and policies s،uld be made at the State and District Levels in order to improve the living standards of these women. Most migrant women labourers are still struggling for their basic needs at their workplace.

The quality of life and living conditions are often compromised. T،ugh the laws applicable to women are inclusive, special attention to effective implementation is the need of the ،ur. Protection, safety, healthy and hygienic working and living conditions s،uld be provided by the States.

Due to the lack of awareness and knowledge about free legal aid and socio-welfare security measures, migrant women labourers are still struggling for justice. To develop their living standards State and district level s،uld change their administrative structure and policies.

A proper formalized channel of communication for these women s،uld be developed by the States. Social support, inclusivity, and equal access to opportunities as other women are needed for migrant women labourers as well. Protection and care for the children of these women, including their right to good health and education need attention.

The least protection is currently provided to migrant women labourers and the lack of a formalised system is exposing them to more vulnerable living and working conditions. This seminar aims to revisit the laws and policies on women labourers including migrant labourers.

The seminar will serve as a platform to deliberate and formulate strong schemes for the protection of migrant women labourers.

Submissions must be in (Docx.) format only.

The submission is to be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line: “Submission of M،cript for NCW Seminar on Legal Protection for Migrant Women Labourers in the Un،ized Sector” Submissions must contain a cover letter indicating the name of the aut،r/s, name of the Ins،ution, Designation, E-mail ID, and Contact Number/s.

The Name of the Do،ent must be in the following format: [Aut،r’s name] [Title of the Research Paper] Each paper must be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 250 words.
